I am looking through the documentation and there is no section on how to set up the home page content itself! In section 5 it says

but there is no previous section on how to set up the home page to appear as in the theme sample.

Please advise how we are supposed to add in sections as it appears in the home page.

If you have imported the Sample Data XML file then you don’t need to setup homepage you just need to select which front page you want to assign. If you have doubt we can give you an walk-through on the Skype.
