I want my site to look like the theme example, where it shows the doctors on the main scrolling page, and has contact, appointment etc, but there doesn’t seem to be a location to add those widgets on my homepage.

Do make the changes as shown in the documentation and import demo content. For displaying doctors you need to use the doctor’s shortcodes from the shortcode generator.
