Is it possible to change the “No Events are currently listed” message to something else? I would like to add different text for when there are no events.

Yes its possible to the change the text but make you are using Musicplay Child Theme. To edit the file you need to make clone of that in a child folder and then you need to edit files.

The following to edit is music_event.php located in theme/framework/shortcode/music_event.php on line #68 and #116 here you can change the text.

I was able to make the edit. However, it does not disappear when I add an event.

If you can provide us WP Logins to your website with URL then we can take a closer look at it. Make sure you set the post as private reply so that only admin can see your wp-logins.

The custom message show now if there is no event. However, when the event expires, it is just blank. In order for the custom message to show, I have to put the event in the trash.
