I’ve downloaded the most recent musicplay version 1.7.2 and I would like to install the child theme that’s in the zip package but it looks just like a style.css file and not an actualy theme. How exactly do I install a child theme?

You need to upload the original theme and musicplay-child theme folder as well and then activate only musicplay child theme.

The musicplay-child folder in the downloadable content from themeforest 1.7.2 version of musicplay only contains a screenshot.png and style.css file. Shouldn’t this folder contain more files?

Yes it contains no more extra files than those 2.
