I would like to assign a background color to the widgets on my site http://www.wowesd.org/windwomen/about-wowe/
For the text widget I added coding to the text widget for background color but none appears.

For the Jetpack Subscription widget I added custom CSS – background color does not appear.

Attached JPEG shows preferred appearance.

Can you help me with this?
